San Rafael Surf School offers:

  • Board rentals

We rent our boards out for the day. We have many short boards, and one long board. Please notify us if you want to rent a board to have it ready to go on your day at the beach!

  • Snorkeling gear rentals

Like our board rentals, snorkel gear may be rented out for the day. We can suggest places with beautiful coral reefs to explore.

  • One on one surf lessons

You can enjoy a surf lesson with one of our International Surf Association certified teachers. Whether you are a beginner, or have surfed a few times, our teachers are ready to help you get to catching waves. The lessons last as long as you are up to keep going and charged by the nearest hour.

  • Surfing Tours

We offer tours to the best surf beaches in the area. We mount our boards and take off early morning or in the early afternoon to chase waves. The possible locations of the tours vary depending on the wind. Tours vary from easy to difficult surf, depending on the skill of the surfer.

Larimar Surf Project

Larimar is a precious stone that is only found on the Southern coast of the Dominican Republic. The mine is located about 15 minutes away from Playa San Rafael in Bahoruco. This treasure is a source of Dominican pride, especially for us here at SRSS. We have a small team of our youth who are trained in macrame, lapidary work, and a close cousin who does the silver smithing.

This stone is said to help one express their emotions, relaxation, relieve anxiety, find true love, and is associated with the throat chakra.

We carry ethical Larimar, worked from brute stone to final product conscientiously to promote fair trade practices and ensure the quality of our product. Our merchandise is always changing, and we do not sell online. Come visit us soon to see what we have available!

Mountain House

Perched in the mountain of San Rafael is a modest house made of stone. Full bathroom, simple kitchen, and two beds with mosquito nets. You can take a short walk through the mountain to gather fruit, drink your coffee to the sunrise in the morning, or read a book in a hammock overlooking the ocean. Caleton is a private beach about 30 minutes South of San Rafael. We will part from the Mirador de San Rafael and head out. Upon arrival, we will hike down a valley to arrive to the beach where the swells are perfect for surfing, and the ocean is bluer than you’ve ever seen. We then scramble up cliff sides, and hike along the cliffs just above the ocean. This tour is also a more difficult tour, perfect for athletic types who love adrenaline. The actual tour is short, only lasting about 45 minutes, but the caves we come across will call for a break to enjoy the sound of the ocean hitting the rock below and take a few pictures.

San Rafael Coast Tour

This is our longest and most difficult tour we offer. We being at the mirador de San Rafael and walk to a small path that brings us to the Western side of San Rafael Beach. We continue along the coast, crossing jagged rock, checking beautiful coral reefs, swimming holes, and the stunning view of the Caribbean Sea meeting the Earth. This tour is not for the faint of heart or those who are afraid of heights, but offers some of the most beautiful, pristine scenery our beach has to offer. We will look for crustaceans, crabs, octopi, and any other critters we can find. This would be a good day to rent snorkeling gear to take advantage of the location and check out the ocean life for yourself.
